A New Direction

FREEDOM’S EDGE, an American Trilogy, is a new direction for me as a writer. This historical saga is told in three books: Escaping Yesterday, Surviving the Now, and Fighting for Tomorrow. This is not a romance, although there are love stories among the characters throughout.

Freedom’s Edge is a story of America’s War for Independence in the South: The People Who Fought and Won, and Those Who Fought and Lost. It is based on what I learned both as a director of a small history museum and as the communications and marketing director for the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area in Western North Carolina. In these positions, I traveled extensively throughout the mountains and foothills of Western North Carolina, meeting the people, hearing their stories and their music, and learning their folkways and foodways, along with the history and geography of the region. From this work, I developed a great curiosity about the ancestors of many of the people of this region and their cultures that clashed, amalgamated, or disappeared during the turbulent second half of the eighteenth century, leaving in their wake a unique culture in the Southern Highlands. Freedom’s Edge is a story about these people of the South and the vital role they played in changing the destiny of a new nation.

The three books that comprise the Freedom’s Edge trilogy are available both in print and as ebooks.
